Welcome to the London Gay Symphonic Winds!

We are an LGBTQ+ wind band of around 50 woodwind, brass and percussion players based in Central London.

Our Players

Here in the LGSW, we welcome players from all walks of life. We have a mix of backgrounds and playing abilities in the band, from professional musicians to those rediscovering an instrument they played at school...and of course everything in between!

Whilst the vast majority of our players are LGBTQ+, we also have straight and asexual players and welcome membership enquiries from anyone of any gender identity and sexual orientation.

We are a registered charity whose objectives are to promote equality and diversity (primarily but not exclusively in the LGBTQ+ space) and further the reach and enjoyment of music to our community and beyond.

Our Music

Our musical aim is to be both fun and challenging for our players, whilst providing quality entertainment for our audiences. We want to encourage our players to improve their musicianship in an enjoyable and supporting environment.

We play a really wide variety of music including classical symphonies, wind band masterpieces, show tunes, folk music, TV and movie themes, contemporary compositions, video game music, and of course the occasional disco/pop classic and camp favourite too!

Our Performances

We love to play for an audience! The end result of our hard work rehearsing is to perform concerts. We put on three big concerts a year: Spring, Autumn and Christmas. But we don't stop there. In the Summer we like to get out into London and play on some of the many bandstands throughout the city's glorious parks and march in London Pride.

If you'd like to come and hear us play, check out our Concerts page. Or if you'd like to book us to play at your event (either as a full band, or with our smaller 10-piece band 'LGSW Lite'), head over to our Hire Us page.

Our Musical Directors

Anna Tabor studied Music at the Guildhall School of Music and at Surrey University. As well as being a music educator, she has been a music theatre director and cabaret accompanist and performer.

Anna has worked with several youth and community orchestras and has been the artistic founder and director of Southern Winds (UK): a wind ensemble and orchestra who have promoted new music and broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Dan Allen studied conducting as an undergraduate with Neil Flottman, and later with Ralph Hultgren and Dr Peter Morris. He has worked extensively in music education as a Director of Bands leading wind ensembles, big bands, and brass ensembles.

A multi-instrumentalist, Dan performs on most brass instruments. He performs regularly as a trombonist with Brasstermind, and as a trumpeter with Slivobitches. Majoring on tuba, he has performed with the Queensland Wind Orchestra, Brisbane Excelsior Band, Transbalkan Express, Doch, the Doch Gypsy Orchestra, Barksdale Brass Band, and the Brisbane Chamber Collective.
